OK so, I bought my At&t Captivate and straight out of the box I rooted it. YAY!! OR is it?

Now I want android 2.3. OK i thought a little reading and you are done! Nope day 3 of me trying to get this done using multiple methods and now I am about to give up. It is not that i don't like 2.1 but I want things like flash!

I also want a easy way to get side loading. I am sick of amazon having app free and not being able to install them and I am sure there are some really awesome apps out there that I will not be able to get cause AT&T sucks.

If anyone can give me some help I would greatly appreciate it. I know that people have asked but I guess I am sick of reading about hiings that don't work for me.

Hey... I'm not sure about 2.3 on your device(I have an EVO) but you should be able to side load apps no problem.

It should be the same... try going to Menu>Settings>Applications. There you should see something like "Unknown Sources" ,check it. It should allow you to install non market(Google) apps.

Again I have a EVO, but I don't think it would be any different.

if you just care for flash. The easiest way is to download the samsung kies mini application and update to 2.2 You can then download and install flash 10.2 from the market. If you really want 2.3... Then look for the Cyanogen mod cm7 builds for the captivate. They are not perfect RIGHT NOW and expect a couple of things to not work right as well.

Thanks to our wonderful AT&T, we can't sideload on stock.

OP: You can update to 2.2 using these instructions. Make sure you unroot first if you've done anything (if you haven't, it should work fine).

After that, go to the root link in my sig, and use SuperOneClick. You can root AND enable sideloading.

Are you serious!!!! Man I thought it was a universal part of Android. Like something a carrier couldn't F with. Can't stand how carriers are always crippling devices.

They ***** and moan about us users rooting our devices... if they would just leave them the way the manufacturers design them then we wouldn't have to fix them.

If it ain't broke..... sorry OP... had no idea carries would change something like that.

DL SQLite manager 0.6.8 for firefox and you can go into the setup files of your phone and enable apps not sourced from market.

Maybe consider at 2.2 ROM instead.

The 2.3 ROMs seem to be beta, or at least there isn't a Samsung release that the dev gods can mod. I would highly recommend moving your phone to Andromeda3. It is based on the Armani 2.2 Captivate ROM and will give you Flash and other desired features. I have tried many Roms and am most happy with this one.

It is fairly easy to do once you have rooted and installed Clock Work Mod. If you new to all this I would recommend viewing the videos made by connexion2005 at MobileTechVideos ? Captivate Tech Videos. They are Captivate specific and very helpful. If they help you provide a donation.
