NO THANK YOU ! Please let my perfect,beautiful phone alone. Every time they updated my htc blunderbolt they created more problems than they did improvements.
That's because it was an HTC Thunderbolt. Arguably one of the worst Android phones to ever be released. It was launched at a major turning point in hardware for smartphones, as a flaghship device with extremely limited specs. It physically cannot handle anything past Gingerbread without tanking hard. HTC got into a nasty situation by promising people ICS and then were finding out that the device simply couldn't handle it. But I guess from all the bad press they were forced into releasing it. Well, now you see what type of a mess that phone is in.
This simply isn't the case for the Note 2. It's hardware is lightyears ahead of the Thunderbolt's. It would take some serious wizardry on Google's part to make a new version of Android that could cripple this device like ICS did to the Thunderbolt. Hell look at the Galaxy S2 which came out around the same time as the Thunderbolt. That beast is rocking OFFICIAL Jelly Bean right now, 4.1.2, and there isn't a problem in sight AFAIK. That's because first off, Exynos processors/GPU's are beasts compared to equivalent Snapdragons and (lol) TI OMAPs, and it can run JB like it's nothing. So imagine how our 4 core 2GB RAM power house devices will handle future updates? I easily forecast us getting pushed along right into 5.2+ or wherever Google takes Android.
Don't be afraid of updates. They are good things. When you own a device that has the hardware to continue running into the future and receiving updates, then said updates prolong the life of that device. They bring new feature additions to your phone, things you often times cannot find in 3rd party apps or even ROM trickery. You need that OS bump to get some of these features. Whether they matter to you or not is up to you, but just remember that we only made it to where we are today by asking "how can we improve this?" If nobody ever asked that question and made strides, we'd all be wearing loin clothes and throwing spears daily to get lunch.
All that being said, don't expect 5.0 for several months. We still have yet to receive the 4.1.2 update that Samsung gave to virtually every single other variant of the Galaxy Note 2 in the world, except for Verizon. I am expecting after we get 4.1.2, it'll be months before 4.2.2, then several more months before 5.0.x. That's Verizon for you. They're very cheap and lazy when it comes to OTA's.
