Android 5.1.1 won't allow silent mode?

android 5.1.1 won't allow silent mode?!?!?!

Hi, I can't believe this is really happening right now. With the new android 5.1.1, I cannot make it silent. A coworker and I fiddled and there is no info online. It demands vibrate or noise, this is absolutely absurd...before I got a new replacement phone, the old android worked! You could go completely silent with no vibrate. I have to turn my phone completely off at work and shouldn't have to. Why is this and is there some special way to turn the vibrate off?

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? You might need a 3rd party app, like Volume Ace.

That's unusual, usually when you put it in Mute in silences everything. Have you tried Do Not Disturb mode?

Settings > Sound and Notification > Scroll to "Notification" at the bottom and click Do Not Disturb
