AC Question

In the last few months I have updated my Nexus 4 to Android 5.1.1 after holding off due to all the comments about problems, especially with wifi. Now on 5.1.1 my wifi is very unstable, cutting out quite often, usually at least once every 5-10 minutes for just a few seconds and then comes back online and works fine.
My phones mobile internet works perfectly with no issues. The wifi was also perfect with no troubles for 2+ years with this phone on Kitkat 4.4.4 and previous versions.

My mum also for Christmas recieved a Acer Iconia ONE tablet which has android 5.1. She also is recieving wifi dropouts at a much more frequent rate, usually every 2 to 3 minutes her wifi drops out for a 5-10 seconds before coming back online.

Is there any fix out there or solution to lower the frequency of dropouts? I have tried all of the "wifi troubleshooting options" and none of them work. Also these issues have never appeared before Android 5.1. I have a Nexus 7 (2012) on Kitkat 4.4.4 and the wifi works perfect and has done since purchase so I feel its a 5.1 issue thats still around.

If anybody could provide any solutions or even just knowledge if they are aware of this/planning to patch soon or if this has just been abandoned until 6.0. I honestly dont mind it on my nexus 4 but for my mothers tablet I would rather fix it for her :/.

Thanks.
