Android 6.0-based device won't save any APN settings

I've recently bought a chep Android 6.0-based car radio from China and I've been fighting with it for the past few days to finally acknowledge my USB 3G dongle (D-Link DWM 157) but to no avail. I thought that maybe the radio doesn't react in any way to it being plugged in cause it doesn't have the right APN settings - the problem is, you can't save any.

The system has some weird launcher on it, though the original Android APN settings menu is unlocked. Thing is, when you input _anything_ into it and save, it just disappears into thin air. I've tried inputting various gibberish, I've tried inputting the actual credentials that are appropriate for the carrier the SIM of which is put in the device - nothing changes. When I googled around and searched the forums, there seemed to have been some similar problem but none of the fixes helped - no resets, no "reset to defaults", nothing. It's just that every time after you input anything as an APN profile and hit Save, you might as well hit Discard cause it just disappears after you do it.

What else may I try?
