Good news! I shall eat some of my previous words about Sony not supporting its phones as well as one would like. Mmm, marshmallowy.

Sony always supports their phones with updates for years.. The updates are slow to come but when they do, older devices get them as well.. The Z3 and Z3C are also getting 6.0..

Updated yesterday morning and everything went fine. So far so good! The phone feels a little snappier..

Changing over to a new z5c from htc m8 on Monday. I'll be getting this update done before I do anything

If your device does not update right away you can do it manually.. Just download the correct FTF file from the link I posted above and flash it using FlashTool.. Easy peasy..
