android 8.1 go not working with 2 audio sources simultaneously

Goodday folks,

my android car stereo won't let me listen to music while navigating. The os is android 8.1 go, api23, so it's more like marshmallow. Under accessibility options there isn't a way to disable mono sound. There should be a way through usb with a computer and adb to disable audio focus for the navigating app, but i can't make the computer find the radio through usb. The usb connector from the radio is a big loosy, so maybe that's why i can't connect. I think, after 15 minutes of navigating (navigating sounds turned off) it still closes the music app.

Can someone help me getting audio from navigation and mp3 player simultaneously to work?

Android radios (not to be confused with traditional radios with Android Auto compatibility) are about half worthless. They are made by no name companies with little to no customer/tech support, the specs are horrible, and I've yet to see any honest positive feedback on them. My guess is that whoever programmed it botched it and I doubt you'll find any way to fix this.

To be blunt, I suggest you replace this with a real radio from a name brand like Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, etc. If you really want GPS navigation built in instead of running it from your phone via Android Auto, there are units that can do that. If you want help going that route, I'll be happy to give you some suggestions. If you list your vehicle year, make, model, and factory audio setup (I.e. Is it a premium sound system?) That would be helpful as well.

Edit: I double checked the api lists. If yours is indeed at 23, that would be Android version 6.0. Sounds like they tried to put an 8.1 skin on it to trick customers into thinking it's better than what it actually is. That is common with clone/counterfeit phones and can make any sort of troubleshooting all but impossible. If you are still within your return window, I'd do so and get your money back.

thanks for replying! The radio is working good, just the navigating part. I tried running terminal emulator and following command:

In tasker use "Run shell" the following command with desired package name:

appops set <package> TAKE_AUDIO_FOCUS ignore

The shell does know appops, but when i enter a programm in there, it gives some java errors and a permission denied error. The command prompt starts with xxxxxdemo> that's unusual i think.

That's beyond me and the skills of most members here. If you're digging in that deep, you may have better luck at the XDA forums. They get more into the coding side of things, but I wouldn't hold my breath in your case due to the questionable OS.

Found the solution. The radio has a factory menu, guarded with a keycode. Inside the menu, there is another menu called apps. Inside apps, you can select 5 apps that can produce audio concurrently. You can also pick apps that have to autoboot. Followed by a reboot and audio ducking works.

Glad you figured out a solution. That is not a standard Android ability, so must have been added as a custom ability by the manufacturer.
