Maps not working on Android auto anymore?

For the past month or so, Android Auto completely changed and completely sucks.

I have a 2021 Trail Blazer and have not had issues ever, until recently. I hardwire USB-C to my S22+.

My google maps does not show up. The only way I have found to make it actually display is to pick a destination on my phone and start the navigation. Then I have to unplug and plug the phone back in. Only then will maps show up.

Very similar with Youtube music - I have to launch something on my phone to get it to show on the screen in my car. I used to be able to see my playlists and everything through the display but now it only shows what's now playing.

I removed and re-added my phone, updated everything, checked all the settings and nothing obvious is preventing maps from loading. Went through all the setting on my car interface too.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Am I an idiot and missing something incredibly obvious?

Have you tried a different cable? Get a good, quality cable if you haven't. Also, delete all data and cache from the Android Auto app in settings (look under Storage). If all else fails, you may need to wipe and factory reset the phone. But try the cable first. I replace mine a couple of times a year. All that plugging and unplugging is hard on them. I've been using AA since 2015 and I've bought a bunch of cables since then! Good luck, post your results; I hope this helps.

I have not tried a new cable but I definitely will. It's weird that I have to force Maps to open by launching it first on my phone and if I don't it's like it doesn't even exist.
