Android app error when accessing microSD card files

Hi! I use a 64GB microSD as an expanded storage on my LG Stylo 4. Following the notification on the phone, I formatted the SD card into "portable storage". However, when I tried to open files, I got error messages such as "file is damaged" or "the file is empty". But if I copy the same file to the internal drive, the apps can open all the fils just fine. Is there a way to fix the problem? Thank you!

What notification are you referring to? Are you saying this was a card you were using for a while, and then you had to reformat it for some reason?

What you're describing makes it sound like the card is corrupt or counterfeit. Does the same thing happen with other cards?

Thanks Diddy. This is the first time for me to put in a SD card. The notification just showed that I could use the SD card as a storage and I could format it. The file manager shows that each file in the SD storage actually has the correct size, and the file can be opened just fine by the app if I copy the file to the internal storage. The problem is that apps do not recognize the files in the storage (even though the files are all perfectly normal files). I tested the SD card and found it worked perfectly on other machines.

Did you clear the cache partition and reboot after installing and formatting the SD card?

What kinds of files are these, and how are you trying to open them? Are you able to test another SD card in the phone?

Thank you! I cleared the cache but it didn't help. I found a workaround to the problem: I can go to individual apps and change the "Storage used" to "SD card". This method worked only for some apps because many apps (such as "Gallery") do not provide the option to change storage.
