Android Auto Apps

Just bought a 2018 Mitsubish RVR, which connects with my company phone , a Samsung S9.

How do I determine which apps are Android Auto friendly? I installed Waze, since I read it was compatible, and it showed up the next time I plugged in my phone. Messenger doesn't show up though. Android Auto will read me messaged via Messenger, and allow me to reply, but doesn't show up in the app list on the car display.
