Android Auto does not shut off

Can someone please help. Galaxy S8, latest firmware and version of Android Auto. This has been a problem since I used Android Auto for 1st time. No options in the program make any difference. The issue is that when ever I disconnect the cable to the radio receiver and take the phone away, it keeps Android Auto open and running, with the do not disturb left on. Is there a solution? Can this program be told to shut down and return the phone to normal? Thanks

Mmm, not a clue. Can't see any reference to such an option. I always use the cable anyway. I switch the car off, walk off and much later or if I need to use the Contact less pay I always have to faff around unlocking the phone, then shut down Android Auto manually.

The quick way to tell would be to make sure wi-fi on the phone is off while you're in the car, and see if the problem persists.

Wifi is off, but the hotspot is always on.

I'm not sure if Android Auto Wireless makes use of the phone's hotspot, or if it's just connecting directly via wi-fi. Try turning off the phone's hotspot just to rule that out.
