Android auto is making me mad

First let me say I’m new at this kind of thing,so if this is in the wrong spot or the answer is here and I missed it I'm sorry. My wife has a Samsung A8 running android 9 pie. We can't get it to work in our android auto,we have a Hyundai Tuscon 2019.When we tell it to call or text it said “sure no problem but when it is safe disconnect the phone and hit notifications and allow Google to access your contacts” I have tried reloading the app,turning the phone off and restarting it,different cable and making sure the settings are set right. I have a nova plus and it works fine. Thank you come to find out we needed to down load google assistant to make android auto work.Thank you for your help.

well, the first off, I'm sorry to hear you're having this Android auto issue! Number two, try uninstalling and reinstalling the application from your phone completely, and clearing cache. when I used to have my older Verizon Galaxy s8 with my Accord sport, Android Auto worked without a work without a hitch.

You didn't say that you followed those instructions. In any case I'd check the AA permissions.
