Has anyone running Android Marshmallow been able to launch Android Auto from a locked phone, or must the phone be unlocked?

Updated to M from L on my LG V10 and now to launch AA, the phone needs to be unlocked.

Using my S6 on 5.1.1 I need to unlock phone for it to connect to AA, don't think it'd limited to 6.0 only...maybe for LG

Update
My phone connects From a locked screen now

My G4 (Marshmallow) launches while the phone is locked. In fact it works flawlessly while locked. I run into glitches at times only when I unlock it.

An easy solution for you might be to set the automobile as a trusted device. Then whenever it connects to the BT, it will be unlocked automatically anyway. Seems odd that it won't do it while locked though.

Tried this, and the pairing of the phone on the Pioneer NEX unit sometimes acts as if it is new, so I have to re-enable Smart Lock.

On your G4 running MM, how is your lock screen set up? What does it say when your phone is connected?
