Android Auto Speedometer

When will we get some kind of speedometer to show up in Android?

This is vital, UK speedometers, typically mechanical stepper motors, are very in accurate, as like many users I'm sure I've been going through hoops to trying to get this function even using a companion App like Ulysse Speedometer.

For me I to switch to the inbuilt navigation system which does have an in-built GPS speedometer.

This could help avoid speeding fines....

I would also like to see an indication of the speed limit. This is something the OEM nav systems provide and it can be very useful when you're on unfamiliar secondary roads.

Re: Android Auto Speedometer

Actually "yes" the stepper motor kept sticking, fixed it now. Anyway UK speedometers are not very accurate:-

"The UK law is based on the EU standard, with some minor changes. A speedo must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph. So if your true speed is 40mph, your speedo could legally be reading up to 50.25mph but never less than 40mph. Or to put it another way, if your speedo is reading 50mph, you won’t be doing more than 50mph but it’s possible you might actually only be traveling at 40mph"

This not to mention the effects of tyre wear etc and yes a sticking mechanical speedometer needle.

Its easy to provide a GPS speed read-out these days, there seem to be no argument not to especially considering the numbers of users either driving, walking/running, cycling, sailing etc. Maybe there are some practical reasons why it’s not been provided, who knows, but until it is maps will not be a full member of the navigation club.
