There was an update for Android Auto, that said there were bug fixes. Well, not the bug where you get a black screen with the S22 Ultra and some head units. They need to get with it and fix this!

I think this has more to do with the head units needing to update more than Samsung. But I could be wrong.

How could Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood have possibly known 4-5 years ago that Samsung would come out with this S22 Ultra, and that it wouldn't work with their units? How can they possibly be expected to provide firmware updates to keep up with that?

My head unit worked just fine a month ago with my Note 20 Ultra, but I get this S22 Ultra, and it doesn't. Same type of USB C plug. Very similar phones, to be quite honest. The differences between phones are very subtle.

Samsung and Android Auto should be the ones to fix this. The whole allure of AA, is that the screen in your vehicle could be basically a dumb display, which projects what's on your phone screen since people upgrade phones every year or two, but keep their vehicles much longer... Sometimes 5,10,15 years

Try going into settings>apps >Android Auto tap>upper right corner tap and uninstall the update and see if previous version works without play store updating it , AA been long time issue among lot of Androids unfortunately:(

I had no issues with AA tonight in my car. I mean no more issues than I usually would have. lol Mine is AA wireless, though.

There have been two updates since the S22 Ultra came out and I've tried with every version along the way, and nothing works. It's sadly a well known issue with this phone and AA

Not all individuals with S22 ultras will have the problem. Seems to depend on which vehicle/head unit you have

Wireless Android Auto worked really crappy in my car until a Samsung update to my A21. Since then, it has worked well. No update was applied to the Head Unit. At the same time as when it wasn't working well, Apple Car Play worked flawlessly with other phones from the family. I would suspect it is a Samsung issue.

Android Auto has been Google's problem child forever... one of those things you wonder if they'll ever get working reliably. It does need to be compatible with a lot of different vehicles though.

I just ordered a S22U that's arriving Monday. I currently use a N20U and Fold 3 with Android Auto daily. If I have any issues I'll post here with my setup.

Problems seem to be for anyone with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit. It seems that vehicles with the car manufacturers head unit support the S22's. Pioneer is blaming Samsung & Samsung is blaming Pioneer.

It's not just Pioneer. Many Kenwood units too. There are probably others too

Why should Google fix issues introduced by 3rd-party manufacturers? Maybe it's a Samsung issue to resolve? Maybe it's an issue for the head unit manufacturers to resolve? If the phone works with some units but not others, I say the head unit manufacturers need to issue compatibility updates.

Take my vehicle for example - a 2021 Subaru Outback. It has an 11.6" portrait screen, but AA only displays on the top half of the screen. Who's "issue" is it to fix? AA supports the resolutions, but for some reason it only displays on the top half. Turns out, SUBARU needs to update the firmware of their head unit to support the portrait mode, the 2023 model (mid-cycle refresh) will support it with the same display so those of us with 2020-2022 models hope an update comes to resolve that, and Subaru HAS been issuing updates for the system.

Because if Google wants Android Auto to actually be a platform that the general public can use and count on, they'll need to work with handset manufacturers to be as compatible as possible. People keep their vehicles for sometimes many years, but are more likely to get a new phone every couple of years.

Some head unit manufacturer that released their product 3 years ago, and can only update firmware over a USB thumb drive through a convoluted process, should not be expected to keep up with the constant updates that AA and handset manufacturers experience... Nevermind phone hardware changes.

So, stall development for the convenience of folks using older head units? GREAT idea...

LOL @ "older head units". In 2024, when your Subaru is considered old by your standards, let's see how you feel about that. Also, keeping AA reliable and open doesn't stall development. It keeps it relevant

I would think Subaru will still be updating the units at that point, considering the model isn't due for a major refresh until 2025 which would be the next time the system would see a redesign (the 2023 mid-cycle refresh has the same screen, though possibly an updated control unit)...
