Hello,

I've been using Android Auto and Google Maps for years. I use it daily on my commute to select the best (fastest) route to the office. This morning I connected my phone to my car as usual and for a minute the map showed on my car's Infotainment screen then it blinked out and began to mirror my phone home screen. I disconnected and reconnected my phone but this didn't help. Next, I disconnected and rebooted my phone, but after the phone was back and I had unlocked and connected it to my car, the phone's home screen was still being mirrored. Maps will not open even if I tried to open the app from on my cars' touchscreen. Has there been a recent update to Android Auto that could be causing this behavior? Has anyone experienced a similar situation? If so, how did you resolve the problem? Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated. For your information, I have a Samsung Z-Fold 3 which is running Android 14 and all installed apps are up-to-date.

Welcome to Android Central forums.

What year Toyota do you have? I have the last year to not allow mirroring so I'm a little jealous, but anyway. If I had to wager I would say it is the car not AA. If AA had done something to prevent Maps from working it would have been big news not to mention a really silly thing for Google to block their own products from working together especially when I'm seeing article after article talking about how they seem to be pumping up Maps to, push out Waze, or supersede it maybe. That's a discussion for another time.

With my version of the Infotainment system I have to update via a USB, if memory serves, even though I'm fully connected to my internet capable device. I don't know if they updated this in later versions of the System, but would it be possible that the stereo updated its firmware?

A quick search brought me to these instructions for restoring Maps to Android Auto.

Google AI shows these instructions that mention the Infotainment system specifically.

If your Android Auto infotainment system isn't showing maps, you can try these troubleshooting tips:
  • Check Android Auto is turned on: Make sure Android Auto is turned on in your car's infotainment system.
  • Restart your infotainment system: Restart your car's infotainment system.
  • Set up Android Auto: Make sure your car is in park and the infotainment system is on. Plug a USB cable into your phone and your vehicle's USB port. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up Android Auto.
  • Check for app updates: Your phone might ask you to update Android Auto before you continue.
  • Check app status: If you can't find an app in the App Launcher, it might be temporarily disabled. Samsung phones sometimes disable apps that haven't been used in a while. You can re-enable them to make them appear in the App Launcher.
You can also check your vehicle's user manual or contact your vehicle manufacturer for more information.

Let us know if any of these are useful to you and include your answers to my questions in your reply.
Best wishes.
