In TTS android keeps writing TILL instead of 'til..

It's not an issue about phonetics or a misheard word, it's a dev that thinks that the contraction of 'until' is 'till'

How can I get this feedback to devs?

Welcome.

So far as I know, ‘until’ and ‘till’ have the same meaning. ‘Till’ is not a contraction, and since it is in very common currency, there would be no point in changing to the version that you mention: phonetically, ‘till’ would disappear.

You can send feedback to Google if you wish. I did it long ago about an idiotic Google Maps error: it was ignored. Similarly, my suggestion long ago for distinguishing between singular ‘you’ and plural ‘you’ in Google Translate, was ignored. I think that your abbreviation would certainly be ignored or rejected.

Hi.

Till is used for a device to store money and what you do in agriculture.

My point is that TTS clearly has been programmed to recognise the use of the contraction of 'until' , to be 'till'.

Which is a common language error.

That's the rationale. It's different to your examples.

This is a blatant english word error which is common and has found its way into TTS vernacular.

If I were saying ' put the money in the till' then TTS should be smart enough to recognise that it's a noun, as it already does this quite well.

Similarly if I said ' please go and till the field' it would do that too.

In fact I've tested this.

But I've also said ' don't to that 'til you've done this other thing' , and TTS uses TILL every time.

Modern dictionaries list it as same meaning these days but they evolve with language miss use.

'til is still a contraction of an existing word, so whilst dictionaries list it as same meaning, it isn't correct use of English.

My ultimate point is that android TTS is propagating an English error.

Let's travel back 15 years ago. Welcome. You're in the same place as where you came from.

Spellcheck is and has been a problem for years. Some entry methods are better than others but all have issues of some kind of another that the end user can't fix.

Since we are the product and get it "free", if it works well enough, any feedback falls on deaf ears.

Like you, I tend to be a stickler for spelling and grammar that I learned while growing up. The use of the spelling alright still chafes, since I think it started as a misspelling similar to the correctly spelled already. But over the years, it has become officially accepted spelling by mainstream dictionaries. The same can be said about till and 'til -- if you look up the former on any major dictionary (like Merriam-Webster or Cambridge) it will say that one of the definitions is as a synonym for the latter. It's unfortunately something we spelling/grammar buffs have to accept with the changing times.

I looked through the Gboard settings, and unfortunately don't see any way to set up a personal voice dictionary to spell certain words in a preferred way. Perhaps the best approach here is to use the full word until when dictating, rather than 'til.

Exactly. What grinds my gears is when I see a great big billboard that says ' open till 5pm'.

I'm actually ok with 'already' because it's a natural shortening , but till ADDs an unnecessary letter. It both contracts and expands.

People lack critical thought. Including Android devs.

PS. I want it to be default for everyone so they learn how to spell this very common word.

Sometimes feedback is a good reminder to a dev , I'm sure they get busy with other stuff or they say this is the best we can do at the moment but worth sending even if you don't get a reply back.

This is found in the Oxford English Dictionary.
