Android device that plays games smooth?

Ive tried several high end Android device but none of them seem to play games better than my old iphone 5. I tested games on nexus 4, galaxy s4 (quad), and htc one but none of them play games without dropping frames or lagging.

I'm looking to play modern 3d games. Can you recommend a device that is up to par or surpasses the iphone 5 in terms of gaming performance only?

You say "device" but only mention phones. If you are including tablets, the Nexus 7 far surpasses the iPhone 5 in my opinion.

I only tried nova 3 on nexus 7 but it still lagged badly. I am look for a android phone

i have had next to no lag on my s4 i have the gti9505 and its perfect with the screen res as well you cant go wrong
