Android Email Shows 3 Unread Emails But All Emails Are Read

I have 2 email accounts setup on the native email app. 1 is my work email and 2 is my gmail account. I've read all the emails but 3 still show unread with the notification number and a bubble next to the email icon. I've tried everything (i.e., marking all as read, etc) but it still shows 3 unread emails.

When I open the email app it shows there are 3 unread only in Gmail and I've looked through all the folders but can't see any unread.

I don't want to remove the account and start over as I don't want lose the emails that I've marked, starred, and filed away. Anyone know how to fix this?
