AC Question

I've been trying to organize my music library on my S7 edge, which is located entirely on my SD card (which is from a previous phone). Using android file transfer is a pain in the neck lately because I can't even transfer a single file before it says "Can't connect to device" and gives me that spiel about my device screen being locked (when it most certainly ISN'T), and I was JUST transferring a file. Then I have to close the whole thing, disconnect and reconnect my phone, and start over from scratch if I want to move a different file over. It's infuriating!

I've tried restarting the phone multiple times. I've tried it with power saving mode off and on. I'm using the USB cable that it came with. I always make sure to select "file transfer" in the USB menu when I plug it in. I'm running the program on a Mac running OS 10.12.2 (Sierra). I don't really know what else to do, beyond taking the microSD out and using a converter to just plug it directly into the computer.
