hey everyone, not sure where to put this but here we go. Question for you guys:
apple does iphone commercials, carriers do iphone commercials but only carriers and OEMS "htc, motorola, etc" do android commercials. WHY doesn't google do advertising campaigns for android highlighting its own software. Seems wherever "the audience" goes to get an android phone whether its att, tmobile, verizon, it will benefit google....right? What's a couple mil to google to spread the word.
thanks

They better question, I think, is why would they need to? They're growing by leaps and bounds and easily have the majority of the market already. Why waste the money?

Google has its own nexus s commercials.

Sent from my amazing galaxy tab 10.1 which also eats ipads

well for one, a lot of android phone owners that I know have no freaking idea how to take advantage of basic features. I don't know how many people I've shown how to put a damn widget on their homescreen and their amazed every time. Move apps to sd card, change launchers etc., just highlight some stuff ya know. I think google could scrounge up a couple mil in larry page' couch cushions and not even blink.

Oh, I'm not saying money is and issue, but commercials are for advertising. I don't think they need it. I don't think they're going to use commercials to teach people how to use their phone

I've lived through the same thing. People who have Android phones (or even other smartphones) who have no clue how to do anything with them. They are surprised when I show them something that they could have been doing with their phone. Most people don't bother researching before making a purchase or even reading instructions, so they don't take advantage of their devices to the fullest.

Half of Android owners bought an Android operated device by accident. They don't understand what they own and therefore believe it is an inferior piece of technology. Advertisements of people killing robots with their phone are ridiculous. Google needs people to understand what they have and how to use it or they won't seek out another Android phone once their contract is up.

I wholeheartedly disagree. Many bought based on advice from the store, but many more bought on advice of friends. I don't know anyone who's thinks its inferior. I don't know anyone who's gone from android to an iPhone, but I know more than a few that have gone from an iPhone to android

Guys, it's all about the Benjamins. How much does Google make directly from Android? $0. Why spend money chasing no revenue?

Does Google have an Android revenue-model? - International Business Times

Android is basically a component of the hardware. The hardware manufacturer and/or carrier make the most revenue based on the sale of the phone. It stands to reason that they'd advertise... And they do... Poorly.

They doo make money indirectly off all the mobile searches through android though. People also need to realize that it may not be cost effective for manufacturers to advertise. They may sell more phones but make less money. They're doing pretty good without it.

I still fail to see what advertising has to do with learning about your phone. Advertising doesn't teach you how to use all the features of your new TV, or computer. How is that ththe manufacturers fault?
