Key point to the article:They say it's likely these infected apps are free downloads from untrusted third-party marketplaces. It also wouldn't surprise me if they were free downloads of normally paid apps or games.

The fix should be relatively simple though: a reset. As the user may not know what else was installed upon installing that app.
 
I suppose I might also add that perhaps we ought to discourage spreading misinformation and misleading conclusions such as this article.
