On the Android messages app where are all the pictures that a contact has sent me within a chat?

Normally within the chat there is an option to see all the pictures that person has sent within that chat but I can't find the option anywhere.

Unfortunately that depends on which app you're using for Messaging. It's usually a MEDIA option in the menu for each conversation, but not all apps have that, and since depending on your specific phone the manufacturer/carrier might have modified their stock messaging app, that might not be included or 'buried' somewhere else.

Try selecting a picture within a conversation and then swiping left/right, that might also work on some.

It depends on your model. It can be Gallery, Media, Downloads or Google Photos.
