Android Messages app LAG

I planned on using the stock messages app on the pixel 2 so my Fossil watch can use Quick Reply, but the app is so slow and laggy I don't understand why.

Anyone else having issues? I've cleared cache, data...tried everything. When I open the app it takes seconds for the messages to load, takes forever to send, everything is slow

Have you hard reset? Which version of Android are you on?

It's fine for me. And I haven't deleted my messages for years. I have thousands of messages.

Yeah I have no idea what's wrong but it's not even usable for me right now.

So I went into the play store and went to Android messages and hit "uninstall" now it says to update it but I didn't. Seems to be working better already...so odd! Let's see what happens

You could try booting into Safe mode - the stock Messages app should still work - and see if it behaves correctly. If it does then you have some 3rd party application causing your problem.
If it still has issues then you should contact your carrier to make sure your device is setup correctly on their end.

Every other message app is snappy though. I have Textra installed and it is so much faster but I don't get quick reply then on my watch.

I hard reset and that did the trick. Back in business
