Is there an option to change the background /theme on this app or am I limited to just white and possibly black?

I normally use Samsung messaging , however the none carrier model in the USA doesn't support or allow me to use RCS messaging on the Sprint network. Hence the reason I'm using googles version on my note 9. Thanks

Android Messaging is in the first stages of "primitive", so you can't do much with it. But in a few years, or maybe more than a few (or less), it will be mature, and you'll be able to do everything with it - including messaging via internet. So get used to it. It's the future. (In the past, texting meant that - text. No pictures. That changed to, first to people using your carrier, then to everyone.)

Cheers . Albeit I use telegram and WhatsApp much more but I was spoiled with the stock Samsung messaging app on previous carrier branded devices.
