Android Messenger - Name group texts?

Is it possible to create a custom name for a group text thread with Android messenger? For example if I am texting people in my fantasy football league is it possible to rename that thread to "Fantasy League"

I am pretty sure you can do this on an iPhone with their messaging app. Wasn't sure if this was possible with Android messenger.

You can do it with Verizon messages app, not sure what carrier you are with.

I have Verizon but prefer the Android messenger app. Surprised it doesn't have this feature.

While the messaging app doesn't allow this inside of contacts you can create a group called fantasy football. Then add the people you want included in that group. Once that is done you can go into contacts then filter by groups. One you inside the group use the hamburger menu and select send message.

I'm selling alot stuff on Craigslist. And trying to keep track of all the people by a phone number and the last few words you said especially when the last thing you usually say is thank you. So being able to lable with like, boat, car, nightstand comma Etc would be great. I can't believe they don't already have it. But it seems like a lot of the Android programs like this just do not progressed very quickly. They're a staple and they don't really have to do much with them because they're included and most bases you can't delete them.

I just tried Textra and I did see any way to label anything. Did not help me.

I think the labeling is Tide to the contacts program. Because you can change the label by entering it in your contacts. But I don't want all those numbers of people from Craigslist in my address book in my contacts. Come on guys program something in there this is Dark Ages!

I use the verizon messenger however i cant find a way to search for the group. So if i text name a group football, a year later i would have to scroll down to find that old message. Wish there was a search method.

There is a search option on top of all your messages. Just type a name or word you know and it will pull it up

You can also click on the three dots menu upper right hand corner, then at the bottom, it says pin to the top. Then ist always the first message on your list.

In Textra, click the message to read the thread. In the upper right corner, click the down arrow. Click the pencil to edit the name.

I used to be able to label my text groups. I had a group called Thursday Softball. now I am unable to do the same thing for a fantasy football group.

Yeah, I was hoping by now... maybe with RCS, this would be an added feature. I tried the contacts/group workaround and it doesn't work as I'd like. I don't want to see the list of people in messenger, I want to see the subject of chat for the group.
