Guys/gals:

I've been using a 4yr old flip-phone and just upgraded to the Evo 3d . The phone is supposed to arrive in a few days. I have no clue how to use android, but have been reading these forums.

Some newbie questions:
1. What should I do with the battery out-of-the-box? Charge to 100% and let it die, or vice versa?
2. What should I look for in terms of build quality? (missing paint, dust under screen, light leakage?)
3. Before I start browsing the web, should I install some type of antivirus/malware program?
4. I heard 3g speed is slow and needs to be reset w/ your MSL# from Sprint?

Is there anything else I should specifically look for, download, or perform when I get the phone?

1. Many people have believed in this false conception that if you let your battery drain and then charge it, then the battery will have better life and/or will last longer. That's not true with the new Lithium-ion batteries, so you can charge your phone whenever you want and draining it to think it will get better result is nonsense, and even makes the battery last shorter amount of time. But if you charge it after it drains then no big deal.

2.Basically you described it all. Anything that bothers you and is not right with the phone entitles you for a replacement. Just make sure to do it in the 30 day window in case sprint says they don't see a problem, then unfortunately you'll use up your return thingy but will get a new model.

3.The antivirus programs available are advertised to do more than they really can. If a virus is to get into your phone then no antivirus will really do crap. But I personally would install an app called Lookout because the advertised protection it adds neat features like localizing your phone in case you lose it or it gets stolen. So definitely give that a try.

4. I wouldn't worry about this, but if you're getting a high signal and really slow 3g speeds (below 800 kbps), then you can contact sprint.

Remember to always back up your important stuff to your Microsd card and then to your computer. Also download apps that you trust and get favorable reviews. Other than that, just enjoy the phone !:D
