Android not staying connected to Windows laptop via bluetooth

[Android Central Question]

Phone and laptop can see one another, they both produce a code. The laptop then says either 'connected' or 'paired'. Meanwhile the phone tries to connect to the laptop ( using the correct name of the laptop) three times before then showing it as 'previously connected'. I've tried updating the drivers on the laptop, resetting the bluetooth settings on the phone, clearing the other devices on the phone. Both the phone and the laptop connect successfully to other bluetooth devices. Phone is Android Moto G7 Plus, Laptop is HP windows 10. Any help gratefully received!

Welcome to Android Central! Just to be sure -- you've also forgotten the laptop on the phone's Bluetooth settings as well, then tried re-pairing, right? Does this also happen in Safe Mode? Using Safe Mode on the moto g7 plus

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have removed the laptop from the phones settings and then tried to re-connect, no success. I've now tried using safe mode and that doesn't work either. Any other thoughts...?

Are you able to test it on another laptop? If it works on the other one, then it may be an issue with the first laptop's system or Bluetooth drivers. Make sure everything is up to date in Windows Update.

Unfortunately not at the moment due to having to self isolate. I've updated the drivers and it says they're all ok. I also run the troubleshooter for blue tooth on the laptop which hasn't worked either. I'll try the phone on an other laptop when I can get out.

Are you connecting via Bluetooth primarily to transfer files? If so, are you able to do that, even though the phone is showing "previously connected"?

I'm connecting primarily to cast the screen to the laptop. I can plug it in via USB and transfer files.

Or are you using the Connect app on Windows? https://www.groovypost.com/howto/how-to-mirror-your-android-to-windows-10-with-the-connect-app/ (That requires Miracast, which the G7 Plus does not support.)

I've never tried it before. I'm trying to use the 'Screen Cast' function on the Moto G7. I press the button and it says 'Cast scrren to Device' and looks for a device but then doesn't find one

I may be using the wrong button but the bluetooth is still not working which I'm thinking is a seperate issue

If you want to mirror your phone to your PC screen, try also AirDroid.

Thnaks for your help. Airdroid doesn't seem to want to load on my laptop although it will on my phone. I'll take it in to the local shop and see what they can do. Thanks again
