Hi Folks,
I wanted to pass along my findings. Most of the information that I found on the internet was "Oh well, you're running beta software, what do you expect?" Like the rest of you I wasn't happy with this answer.
I was able to get Android Auto working with the current beta of Android O. I do admit that it's still sketchy and the system has problems with audio sources, but it works well enough for me to to have Google Maps on my vehicle display. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the vehicle make/model does not matter for my solution.
On initial install my vehicle would not recognize my phone when plugged in via cable. To resolve my issue I performed a factory reset on my device AFTER the install of Android Auto OTA Beta install.
Settings > System > Reset > Reset/Ok to continue past the "lost" account warning.
I restored from the last backup Google had for my device.
Make sure to go into Android Auto PRIOR to connecting to your vehicle and continue through the prompts and disable auto launch when bluetooth is detected.
Again, it's still sketchy, but I wanted to help my AC patrons with the solution I found.
Hope you are well, and have fun with O.
