Android Oreo rollout resumes for Galaxy S8/S8+

Since the update my ESPN app no longer gives me notifications even though enabled. Occasionally my notification tray will not fully extend showing no notifications, if I press the flashlight button on the tray it will then fully drop

The ESPN app is finicky. I can't count how many times I've had to uninstall/reinstall because wasn't getting notifications. Since the beta, I receive notifications, but it no longer triggers the notification light. Maybe try reinstalling it you haven't already.

Got my version 8.0.0 two days ago, on AT&T....Oreo, I believe.

There’s nothing too drastic about it that I’ve noticed so far. The way the no. of emails are displayed, and faster speed are what stand out. Battery life seems decreased. Admittedly, I vegged a lot this weekend and didn’t tinker much with it.

Read that article this morning as well. Samsung's explanation as to delay of update for unlocked makes no sense to me.

Reading between the lines, I think that Samsung has some type of an agreement with the US carriers, one that involves delaying update rollouts to the unlocked models until it's rolled out to the carrier counterparts. Think about it - since the unlocked models aren't loaded with carrier bloat and shouldn't require carrier testing, wouldn't it enable Samsung to issue their updates in a more expeditious manner? Also, carriers block certain exclusive features (HD voice, WiFi calling, etc.) from the unlocked models, so I don't buy the "it has to be tested by all carriers" line. Sammy is clearly in bed with the carriers.

My unlocked S8 (SM-G950F) got Oreo yesterday with March patch.
It's been on October patch before that for ages! It comes in over a Gig, so use WiFi if data is an issue! Seems OK so far.
Some people in Holland are taking class action against Samsung for lack of updates.

The recent patch killed my S7, and this S8 being five months behind in security patches was the last straw for Samsung for me. I've abandoned ship and not likely to return.

Yeah I don't mind not getting Oreo that much but Samsung abandoning it's unlocked users security patch wise sucks. This is the one big thing in my mind that Android OEM's need to get their act together on.

Some of them get it, like Nokia. Most of them don't, like Motorola and with every day that ticks by, it's starting to look like Samsung doesn't get it either.

You shouldn't have to buy a Pixel to get timely security patches. Definitely disappointing.

The was a small update for att. Not sure exactly what it is though. It just says enhancements.

April 2. Still no oreo update on unlocked S8. Am now running a security patch that is *over* 4 months old. Samsung, you've lost me, WTF are you guys thinking?

It appears they aren't thinking, at least not about their customers with unlocked devices. If I wanted this level of neglect I would have bought a Motorola phone! :)

Is this country specific? My unlocked S8+ (Swedish) even got the first update before it was pulled.

It seems that way. The US unlocked models have been getting the shaft from Samsung. As @BobDyl said we haven't seen a patch since December. It's disgraceful.

Postpone Oreo, ok but at least keep the patches going.
