Nvidia is usually good with keeping the Shield Tablet up to date. But if they are working on the new tablet, they might be focusing more on that. Besides, it shouldn't take long to have them update it. It's not like they skin android like some other companies. So I would say that your chances are pretty good.

I think that Nvidia issued a statement that they won't be doing an Oreo update for the K1. They will issue another update soon but not a major Android version update.
