Android OS using mobile data

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew why this was happening or at least how to fix it. My mobile data cycle ended a few days ago and when I checked my usage Android OS had used 200 or so MB.


It says it was all used in the background, how can I disable background data for the OS?

See how my Mobile Data icon is highlighted in green? That means it's on and as soon as I am out of WiFi range or I turn off the WiFi toggle, my phone will automatically connect to mobile data.

All you need to do is to tap that icon and make it dark blue. Let it stay that way unless you need mobile Internet connection.

You should be able to turn mobile data on or off by going to Settings - Connections - More Networks - Mobile Networks - Mobile Data. You can probably also download an app from the Play Store to toggle Mobile Data. Apparently there's no known explanation for why T-Mobile left this fundamental control item out of the quick access dropdown menu, but on the other hand Verizon left the wifi toggle out until the latest firmware update added it.

Yeah I was wondering why all the other versions had it. Oh well, at least I get wi-fi calling to make up for it. I'll check out that thread, thanks

It says that I should turn off Back up my data in privacy settings, how do I get there? All I found was backup options in the the accounts section in my settings.

The post I linked was for a Nexus device, so we may not have that option available. The backup options may be it for us, I'm not sure.

EDIT: On my Verizon phone, under Settings - Accounts there's a Backup and reset area, under which I have options to check or uncheck "Back up my data" to Google servers, Backup account info., and "Automatic restore." Oddly enough, I have "back up my data" checked, but I've never had a data issue with Android OS, so don't know if backup is causing your issue or not. If you have those settings, you could try unchecking back up my data and see if that helps.

Alright, I guess I can try that but I won't really know if it's saving me data or not since it's not consistently using it. Is there any other way to backup the same info?

Probably; there seem to be a million competitors to do backups. It might be that your carrier has something for that.

Thanks, I also downloaded juice defender even though the battery life on my s4 was already amazing. It automatically turns off mobile data when the phone is locked

Just download "noroot firewall" from google play and deny acess for all services of android system especially the one with the longest list(u will know when u see it).
This the best solution it works 100%.

I have experienced what u r experiencing now... Its a pain in the ***.
