Android P beta available to Essential ph-1!

Has anyone succeeded in using split screen with P?
If so than how?

Swipe up to get the apps running in the background, then tap the icon for the app located at the top of that apps "window". When you press the icon, it will open up a menu that shows you "App Info" and, if the apps allows it, "Split Screen." The app will then appear at the very top of the screen, basically only showing the top bar, along with the split screen divider that you can use to resize the app. Then you just need to start another app.

The big issue I'm seeing is that most apps, other than the Google apps, don't seem to allow split screen from the running apps menu.

New OTA update available!

Saw that earlier when I went to their Twitter feed to see if there were any further updates about the fate of the company. I really hope that they are able to update this phone for a couple of more years. I noted before that they did not need to rush out for the PH-2. just make the PH-1 better and grow the user base, then release the next gen in 2019. Hope they can still do this.

Unfortunately i think we'll end up relying on custom ROMs to stay on the latest and greatest. For now I'll just enjoy the phone and live my life 😃

New OTA update available!

I have sideloaded 180412.048 a couple of days ago. How can one know if there's a real meaningful difference between the two versions?
Also, will sideloaded versions get ota monthly bug fixes?
Thanks

Yes, an OTA update hit yesterday for the sideloaded version.

still waiting for the OTA, usually available right after they tweet about it

I'm getting an OTA update now, after having the phone check. It is the same build as shown in the above post, with the June security patch.

I don't think I can agree with that, the two updates should be the same other than the method for installing them. Having said that, they appear to have gone through a few different "versions" of the update on the first day it was available -- there were many issues when it was first posted, including LTE and WiFi not working at all. In the afternoon, the updates were pulled for a while, and then replaced with new "versions" -- or perhaps just new packages that included modules that were missing from the initial builds.

I did the fastboot and I'd be surprised if it wasn't the "better" install method -- just because of the issues that sometimes get created when you install over a previous version of the OS, and this is doubly true in early beta builds. Having said that, if you don't want your data wiped, the OTA has an advantage -- but it will be at the expense of possibly having issues from something "carried over" from Oreo.
I sideloading the OTA 'dirty' ie ocrt 8.1. Liking it so far. I particularly like the cards used for previously loaded apps and once I figured out how to call them up and/or close or restart one. Shades of WebOS which had this feature and others which still could be added to Android.

Mine shows bootloader is locked even with Developer options set to unlock when I power on with volume down. And not making headway with adb using Mac.

I. Must be missing something.

Start Power Off Recovery Reload Bootloader were only options.

I downloaded both images, OTA and Fastboot to my phone.

If a terminal command is used, thought it would be done from bootloader screen.

started with the fastboot and then had to load the ota manually, waited like 2 days since the announcement and never got that ota
