Android Pay Not Working

My Nexus 6 got the OTA update to 6.01 and also had an update to Android Pay. The credit cards that I had saved disappeared and now when I try to add a new one I get the message "Network Error, Sorry, a network error has occurred". Any idea what is going on? My phone is an unlocked Nexus running on AT&T, build MMB29K with security update of Dec 1.

Thanks.

Mod note: corrected thread title.

I am asking around to a few other people to see if they can help.

What steps have you tried yet? I haven't run into that issue, but I do see a little bit of chatter about it... it could be a few things: a) there Android Pay app data got chewed up somehow. Go into the app settings, clear the app data and launch it again. b) The AP app might need to have an update applied to it to work on this version. Sometimes that update might lag behind a little bit as Google Play picks up that you are on the new version.

Lastly, if clearing the AP data, or waiting for a followup AP update doesn't work, in comes the dreaded full factory reset. Updates, even tiny ones like the january security update, have been known to cause issues from time to time and the only way to clear them is reset the phone.

I have disabled it and had it to revert to the previous version, tried to use it again, same problem. Then I updated it again, still has the same problem and there is no data to clear. I did install Greenify, thought maybe that was causing a problem, uninstalled it and went through the same steps outlined above, still the same issues.

FWIW I contacted Google about a similar issue on my rooted SG5 and they said they don't allow Android Pay on unlocked devices

It is not rooted, and Android Pay worked fine on it before. I have a Nexus 5 that is set up the same way, but I got it on 6.01 before putting my AT&T sim card in it, so it is on build MMB29S vs MMB29K. It also has Greenify installed and it didn't lose my cards when it got updated.

It says "fail". Response payload validation failed. So what does that mean and how do I fix it? :)

While I have not used that app specifically, the safetynet check apps basically is performing the same check that Android Pay is doing to see if there are any system changes. You indicated you are not rooted - do you have your bootloader unlocked? Are you using a custom recovery/kernel etc? or are you completely stock?
If you are completely stock and are seeing this error, I have no suggestions (besides a factory reset - maybe that will fix it - no guarantees). But if you are not completely stock, that'd explain this issue - you'll need to be completely stock.

Completely stock, bootloader not unlocked, not rooted. I called Google, sent them a couple of screenshots and a debugging report. Said they would get back to me within 48 hours. I will see what happens.

Yeah... usually that failure indicates that you've messed with your system software somehow.... rooted without using the new systemless root method... installing a tool like busybox into certain paths, Xposed installed, etc. Unlocking your phone does NOT trigger a failure.

That you have it on a stock phone.. let Google figure it out.

Having the same problem on an unrooted, unlocked Nexus 6 on Verizon running 6.0.1 With April 2, 2016 Security Patch level. Build MMBz9X. I've cleared app data, rolled back updates reupdated same "Network error Sorry, a Network error occurred." I downloaded and ran SafetyNetHelper and get a Green Success with a check mark. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
