Why does the default virtual keyboard have the BACK (erase) button and SUBMIT buttons next to each other? I've circled this in the attached screenshot.

I'm using Android version 9.0 (Pie) - but don't see v9.0 as a category on this forum.

This is a poor design choice, and I'm astonished it passed QA. Several times now, I've wanted to erase a message and fat fingered it, sending the message again. I'm sure this has happened to many others. Can I change the keyboard layout? It seems like it was designed by someone who doesn't ever text or compose messages.

It's been that way for a very long time, and no one seems to have a problem with it. Not just Pie, I've been using Swiftkey for years and it was the same layout, Samsung had that layout for years, that's just the way everyone does it. iPhones are laid out the same way. So is my PC keyboard. (And I think it's been that way at least back to the 70s.)

Your keyboard is the same? On a standard US Keyboard, the Backspace is separated by the Backslash Key.
