Android Pie Has Wrecked My Text Messaging App

I have a Galaxy S9 Plus, and ever since I got the OTA update for Android Pie from AT&T a little over a week ago, my stock text messaging app has basically been corrupted. I frequently don't receive texts unless I reboot my phone, and even then it's up in the air as to whether or not I get them.

Even more strange, messages I've sent to one contact are showing up in conversations with completely different contacts when I open the app later. Say I send or receive a few texts with contact A. I open up the app later and those messages are showing up under Contact B (a completely different person), and the contact photo isn't even the right picture for that contact. Messages are interspersed and texts from several different contacts are showing up under one conversation.

It's making text messaging completely unreliable and next to impossible. I'm incredibly frustrated with this new update and I wish I could go back to Oreo.

Sounds like a lot of file corruption type issues.

Clear cache partition is so common step in troubleshooting I sometimes think it should be part of an update.

If that and clearing storage cache of apps doesn't cut it, I'd say your system needs a factory reset. Those problems are unique and not normal.

Go slow and avoid a mass restore, do it gradually.

You should also do a safe boot after that cache partition erase.
