Android Pie Update: Text messages won't denote "read" and typing indicator not working

Hi. I've got an S8 and recently did the Pie update. I pretty much love it but am having some issues. My text messages won't denote "read" and typing indicator not working - this is the same on mine & my daughters S8's. We've followed the only suggestions I've found (which was to clear cache & data from the app) to no avail. Can anyone help me with this?
