Android Pie wireless keyboard: how to select.

I am using Android Pie on an Mi A2.
As I am a bit disabled comma it is very useful to me to use voice, wireless keyboard, and on-screen keyboard, depending on the task.
But, I cannot seem to select text using the wireless keyboard.
Can anyone help?
