Samsung S23 Ultra
Android 14

Gboard is coded by an intern at Google. I get micro stutters especially while updating apps.

Swiftkey is straight up dog 💩. Swipe has become so horrible since I last used it. Autocorrect can't figure out a thing.

Samsung Keyboard is perfect except that it isn't. Autocorrect is completely borked. I discovered the cause accidentally. Autocorrect and Suggestions causes it to randomly jump the cursor around and put words inside of other words. Turning it off fixes that but renders it useless.

Using Heliboard right now on trial. It's very close. Not sure if I'm having issues or it's a learning curve. No GIF input. No emoji search.

Tried chatgpt and it recommended abandoned apps and the ones i already hate per above.

Requirements are: Free. Autocorrect. Swipe. Reputable.

Nice to have: Split Keyboard for my tablet.

That used to work but the spell check option goes away if Samsung Keyboard is selected. I think it happened in Android 14.

I'll unfreeze it and check again but pretty sure it's still the case.

I don't know if I'm just lucky, but I've been using Samsung keyboard, Gboard, and SwiftKey for the past six years without any issues. I switch between them regularly. Maybe I've just trained them all by doing this. I hope you'll find a keyboard app that works for you.

How do you type? I use swipe typing.

Try heliboard, privacy-conscious open-source keyboard, based on OpenBoard. it Does not use internet permission

Swiftkey was my go to. I liked it a lot except that fricken blue Exclamation mark they had pinned in the toolbar. It ticked me off (a long with clipboard sync not working so I left). It's gone now so I gave it another chance and this is when I discovered it can't get a think right, not even close.

Samsung I have no idea what's going on with the spell checker bouncing the cursor. It's mainly on forums for some reason. If I tried to post here (obviously not exclusively), I wouldn't get a sentence out swiped or typed.
Are you able to still do what @mustang7757 said above with using Google's spell check with Samsung?

The Samsung keyboard uses Grammarly for spellcheck, but I'm running the Android 15/ OneUI 7 beta. I don't remember what it used prior to the beta because I had SwiftKey in use before the beta. However, I haven't had typing issues with any of the keyboard apps I've used since using Samsung devices.

I have the dumbest issues, I swear. Only a handful of others experienced (looking back at older posts, they've likely moved to something else) the same thing as me. Naturally us affected never found a solution. Figures. Well thanks for rubbing in that you've got an S24 series on the new Beta 😜.
Yes it goes away when u select Gboard:(
Fricken Samsung. They too are Apple-fying next to Google. So many features needleslessy removed. You are correct though, it did at one point allow Gboard Spellcheck which is likely why I went problem free for so long.

Until I find a replacement, guess I'll suffer with GBoard. Heliboard is ok but feels like a beta, needs polish but has great potential.
I'll try Samsung Keyboard on OneUI 7 I guess but doubt my issue will be fixed. I still don't like that Samsungs Keyboard, toggled on or not intercepts all copy/cut a system level somewhere, hence it being frozen. If I was actively using it, it'd be one thing but that it's doing it in the background, I still Have a problem with that.

I've been on Gboard for awhile, Samsung must have changed that at some point

Ahha! I remember why I hate the Samsung Keyboard now. They did fix most of it but now the voice input is in the dumbest location for everyone except people who use navigation bar with icons, not gestures (and if you're left handed).
