android q

Not bothering to get Android Q as Pie on Essential Ph-1 is doing just fine. Did do the Factory Reset after the update and backed up all passwords, data and photos before installing Pie.

Any news on the release date?

New Android versions are typically released in the late Summer; last year Android P was released by Google, and Essential, on August 6. The initial Alpha developer preview of Android Q should be released sometime next month. Last spring/summer the betas were available to install on the Essential phone; I've not heard if Essential will be releasing beta versions of Android Q this year.

Thanks I appreciate all of the information, and looking forward to the release of "Q".

I think we will, and I wouldn't be surprised if we were one of the first.

Curious how you folks like the phone overall. From what I know the camera and lack of headphone jack seem to be the weak points though its not the fastest processor either. However at the right price (sub $200) it would appear to be a solid choice especially since its still getting updates. Thanks

I love mine. I'm happy with pie update. It's still fast and fluid. With ample of storage.... Worth ever penny

Glad to hear that and thanks. Still hunting around for the right deal and stumbled across one today that's Alexa enabled, which is a version I never heard about before

I am truly enjoying the Essential phone, and I'm very happy especially it being my first Android phone. I switched over from a Windows phone (Nokia Lumia 925), and was very concerned about the transition. I love the gestures! Coming from a Windows phone I'm very familiar, and it makes me feel at home.

I know a lot of people were complaining about the camera, but I guess the improvements that were made were significant. I was expecting a subpar experience, but it has been the opposite. I'm sure that there are much better cameras, but that can be said for a lot of things.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the phone and am sure its far faster than the Lumia :) One of the other weak links I've heard is the single speaker so am curious what you think along with cellular and data connectivity. Did you install Pie?

Alexa can be installed on any PH-1 from the Play Store.

Got the Pixel 3xl, downloaded Android Q since it's designed for foldable displays, folded my phone in half and now it's not recognizing the display. Pretty sure Android Q has power issues to as the phone won't power on. Any help or idea?
