My battery life has gone to the toilet the past 2 weeks because "Android system" has been at the top of my battery usage, what can I do to make it less of a battery drain

Wipe your cache partition to see what that does ....

Turn off phone. Hold home button, volume up, and power buttons at the same time till recovery comes up. Use volume up and down to navigate and power to select and wipe partition.

Im kinda in the same boat as the OP. Seems like mine has went downhill a bit after an update a few weeks back. What does this actually do? Does it wipe the phone clean? Will i have to re-download everything? Or does it just clear up some of the behind the scenes type things. Just hate going through the setup process again.

Between android system and cell standby It's taking about 20 to 30 percent for me.

No. It doesn't wipe anything except wipe the cache of the OS....kinda like you said....behind the scenes cleaning. You will not have to re-download anything or set anything back up. It will be exactly like it was before...but fixed...I hope !!! :)

Awesome. I've always been a bit hesitant. Not that its a huge chore to get things back in order. But im not always in a mood to mess with that kinda stuff. Thanks for the Info. Im gonna give it a try.

Have you tried some or all of the solutions erasat posts in his topic? All of his information has helped countless users here.

I just went with some of erasats hints, but put on power saving mode and turned off location. Huge difference.

I found my Note 4 draining under 'Android System' after Lollipop. Always had everything enabled (GPS, wifi, etc) with amazing battery life.

Then I discovered that AT&T introduced a new feature. I turned it off and battery life is amazing again. Thats because ATT now enables VoLTE or Enhanced 4G by default. It consumes mobile data and keeps your radio active almost all the time.

Disable as follows:

From:
VoLTE and AT&T HD Voice- AT&T Wireless Support

Android VoLTE capable devices
Tap Settings then Networks then Mobile Networks then Enhanced 4G LTE Mode.
Confirm setting is in the ON position.
If the Enhanced 4G LTE Mode is in the OFF position, then HD Voice and VoLTE are disabled.

iOS VoLTE-capable Devices
Tap Settings then Cellular then Enable LTE then VOICE & DATA to DATA ONLY.
Confirm these settings:
HD Voice On: VOICE & DATA checked
HD Voice Off: DATA ONLY checked
If Enable LTE is set to DATA ONLY, then HD Voice and VoLTE are disabled.

I'm having same problem past couple weeks. I'm running 7.0 beta for past few months and it's been fine up until recently, any recommendations welcome...

Hey Mike Russo1. I don't know if you're still having the problem still but I have some sort of solution for it on my S5 running Marshmallow. All i did was change network mode from 4G to 3G - and now "screen" is first on the list for battery usage, ahead of Android System. For you or some others it might suck to do this because of consequently slower data speeds, but I found that I could live with it :)

For me this problem goes away if I disable Facebook using my location. It might be any app you have, which is (mis-)using Google services. I also had Google fit run amok once (not working and draining battery).

Hey all, I was having this issue too (with a pixel but I think it could apply to any android) and when I disabled the Google play from using background data it improved my battery a ton (before 30% couldn't even get me through the night on standby and now my battery lasts 2+ days with low usage).

Settings >data usage >cellular data usage>Google play services >background data

Let me know if this helps anyone!

Cool tip. Any downsides? Did you notice something weird with notifications?
