Hi guys,
I have a S7 Edge and I've been having this problem for quite a while, since around 2 months after buying my S7 Edge. I finally can't take it anymore so I'm posting here.

My S7 Edge gets terrible battery life when I'm actually using the device. The phone will drain from 100 percent to 88-89 percent in under 20 minutes during a short bus ride to work, while I'm using Whatsapp, surfing the web and/or listening to music. When I go into battery usage, Android System is at the top of the list, even higher than the Screen which is set to the max resolution and not 1080p. I updated to Nougat and battery life is just as bad, although it didn't get worse after the update.

The weird thing is Android System uses almost no battery when my device is idling, and I lose only 2-3% overnight.

I've already tried wiping the device cache partition, resetting all app preferences, and turning off sync.Is there any way to fix this? Thanks so much!

If you're noting an increase in battery drain while you're commuting, it could be because the phone radio is constantly having to find and keep a network connection while moving. That along with your usage of the device could a large factor.

As to the other times that you use the device, I'd say that your 13 hours of life (if your screenshots show typical use) seems a little bit low. But you also show five hours SOT, which is really good.

If you're really concerned, I'd recommend that you run in safe mode for a few days to see how the device works using just the apps that came on the phone with default settings. You won't lose anything. Then you can identify the source of whatever (if anything) ails your battery.

I'm just concerned that Android System is using much more battery than the screen. This doesn't seem to happen to anyone else I know in person who has a S7 Edge. Also, I usually get closer to 4 hours SOT, not 5. I guess I was just lucky when I took that screenshot.

Snapchat only uses 2% while Android System uses 15%, so I don't think social apps are the problem in this case, are they?

In this particular case, at this particular time, wouldn't appear. But, keep in mind that the OS is always on, always watching and always active, it never sleeps or takes a break, so even if the phone is doing "nothing" the OS is.

But why would Android System use more battery than the screen, yet I have no battery drain when the phone is idle?

Good point, but remember that when the screen is on, what is controlling it? OS. And on screen time is relative, just sitting there with the screen on, or playing some ferocious game, will have different results. You do have battery drain when the phone is idle, but much less then when in use.

Is it worth doing a factory reset then? I don't want to reset the phone if it won't solve the problem. If Android System really is supposed to use that much battery on the S7 then I'll leave it.
