Android System Webview will not update

[Android Central Question]

I have a pixel 3 which is updated to Android 10. For the last several weeks Android System Webview is showing that there is an update. When I try to update it it downloads it and says it's installing then fails. Everytime. Any ideas why?

I tried clearing cache and storage on play store. I tried uninstalling updates for chrome and webview and it still won't update.

Welcome to Android Central! Did you also try clearing the cache/data from the Download Manager app?

I restarted my phone this morning and now play store has the dark theme (which I didn't realize it didn't have before) and the updates installed fine.

Don't know why this time was different...

Probably something got stuck in the Play Store app or in Play services. The restart triggered the auto update in the background and fixed the issue.

The dark theme is a server side switch so it's normal that you got it all of a sudden.

Anyway, glad everything is working fine and thanks for the follow up.
