I recently switched over to Android earlier this year and I love Android. I previously have had iPhones. I don't really have any complaints for android besides getting updates. Why can't Androids receive updates like iOS where all the phones get the same update at the same time?

I think the big reason is that there are so many different Android phones, where there's only a few iPhones. If updates are really important to you then Nexus is the prescription I'd recommend.

Each different phone has a different OS on it. It's not like Windows where all PC's can use the same OS. Each phone has to have it's own custom OS. With iOS there's only a couple different models being supported by one company at any any given time. With Android there are dozens of models supported by several OEM's.

"Android" is really just a bunch of code. Each phone company modifies that code to make the OS for their phone and then each carrier modifies that code for their version of each phone. Apple doesn't allow carrier modifications but other OEM's do.

I always find this to be sort of a strange argument for Apple because they seem to only release one OS per year. You don't really get that many updates and all I hear is complaining about their latest update. My Galaxy S4 already has as many updates as my wife's iPhone 5 and I'll probably get KitKat before she gets whatever's after iOS 7.

Hopefully this changes in the future with the release of Kitkat into the wild. It would be nice for everyone to enjoy the latest version of Android.
