Android upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.4 on LG LS720 (using Virgin Mobile

Excuse my ignorance, but I have an LG LS (or VM) 720 which is "stuck" on Android 4.1.2...increasingly, can't get apps as this is to old of a version (min is 4.4). I check for updates using manual check, and nothing. Am I simply stuck, and forced to get a new phone just to upgrade? Have also written Virgin (who of course said "we don't do SW or make the phone), as well as LG...
