What did you think of the live event and Jimmy Fallon?

Interesting choice to host the event. I thought he brought some mainstream pop flair to it, but he seemed to have to fake some excitement about things he clearly didn't have a clue about or care about, which I guess is part of his job anyway.

Dunno if it's being a non Murcan , but it was very very cringe.

Knowing he will be the usual brainwashed iphoneist in reality makes it worse.

I did like having a single constant presenter with rotating VP of this and VP of that , just not sure a chat show host was the best for the job.

Yea, cringe is another word I could see applying to it. I'd rather have just had Rick Osterloh run the thing and rotate a few other people in. I guess they did the presentation for the mainstream public as opposed to more techy people. Some of those features they talked about are cool, but likely not that useful in everyday life. The Magic Cues seem great. The camera coach doesn't seem as useful.

Apparently Fallon has done Samsung phone stuff as well. But yea, I picture him as an iPhone person like much of the general populace

I thought it was terrible. I'd rather just have the Google people up there explaining stuff. I agree with the other posters. I thought it was cringe.

Having had more time to think about it, I actually like the idea if not the execution.

The embargo was lifted before the event for the youtubeists, so nerds could get their spec sheet fill that way. And the actual presentation was aimed at the brain dead iphoners to try and capture that market.

Still felt American late night shopping channel and gave me the dry heave. But I think I get the direction.

Not a fan of Fallon seems fake. I couldn't watch it. I bought the 10 Pro and 4 watch before the event started. (Or within seconds)

Totally agree. He is always doing things to make himself the center of attention. Facial expressions during interviews. Interjecting commentary during interviews, instead of letting the guest talk. Making jokes to gain attention, etc. Can't stand to watch him.

I can only imagine what he's like behind the scenes. Think he'd be totally awful to work for.

Not really a Fallon fan..but that presentation format was better than anything Samsung has done for sure. Then I am tired of the same old Apple presentations and verbiage as well.
So the Google presentation was a step in the right direction at least....

It was absolutely awful. Every segement was terrible, Fallon is a clown. I have no idea who this event is supposed to appeal to. Tech enthusiasts wouldn't have liked it, the mainstream wouldn't have watched/liked it either.

The part where they had all the Pixel products on the table and the woman was talking to Fallon, it felt straight out of a home shopping network segment.

Would much rather just get the Pixel developers on stage talking through the features. But I guess the Pixel 10 is such a minor change from the 9 series before it, they tried to razzle dazzle with celebrities than actually talk about the features, becuase there's so little new with the phone.

I was at work so couldn't watch much, which was fine with me after learning he was "hosting". I got the first 10 minutes or so and it was absolutely awful. Most of the "jokes" feel flat and he was so fake... it was just bad. Mainstream doesn't watch these, go back to having people that know what their talking about present their piece... you don't need some B list celebrity in it.

I agree that whatever he has to say has no merit. It's scripted and he'll read whatever the cards told him to memorize. 'JymME read card, JymmmmmEee make money paper'

At least that's what I think is going on in the that growth on his neck.

I thought it was a large downgrade from the usual. In my book what an f'ing waste of money to pay some "star" to be involved. That is not a dig against Fallon in particular but is aimed at anyone considered a "star" or "influencer." They are honestly going to make me less likely to watch. Best case scenario they do not cause me to have a negative opinion about the product and/or company. There is no chance they will make me have a positive opinion.

I'm curious as to who this stuff actually works on? Do people see a celebrity holding some product and think 'I want to go buy that now'?

I couldn't care less who is advertising what product. And it wouldn't affect my decision making in choosing to buy or not buy a product.

Having read comments here before watching last night, I had some sense for what it could be like beforehand.

I liked the guest segments that highlighted what the products can do. The photographer one was probably the most "real", and I thought Steph Curry did a nice job in his skit.

That said I can understand the reactions and perceptions. Being used to more the more capabilities and features oriented Google I/O, Apple and Samsung events, this Made by Google event was not in that vein, rather as noted by many in the comments above, more for those who may not focus on the technical details.

I watched about half of the presentation and honestly didn’t mind it, even if Fallon looked out of place. I love Jimmy Fallon and his late night show and snl skits, but I’m glad Google was trying to do something different. Did it work to convert any iPhone users? Absolutely not. At least it was more entertaining to watch than anything by Apple or Samsung. Those presentations are snooze fests. I would definitely challenge Google’s claims that the Pixels are as popular as they said. They must be living in a Google bubble to think that the pixels are popular phones among the general population.
