Android wear 2.0 question

Hi, I am a long time iphone/Awatch user that is trying out the other side of the fence. I have a S8+ and a Huawei watch 2 sport edition. Since my car stereo is supporting both carplay and android auto I use the phone with andoroid auto while driving.

My biggest gripe with android wear so far is that whenever I play music it pops up a full screen interactive player that replaces the clock screen until i press the home button on the watch.

Is there a way to disable this behaviour? I got a big player vidget on my car stereo and I don't need one where I look to get the time.

I'm hoping someone can answer this too. On Android Wear 1.5 you could just add the music app to the list of blocked notifications in the AW app and it would stop the music player popping up but that isn't working for me now on 2.0
