Is it possible to use an android phone without paying a monthly data fee? We're on AT&T.
My dad's phone was an old Samsung Solstice (a not-quite-smart and not-quite-dumb phone) that, with funkiness involved with my sister using my dad's line to upgrade her iPhone and the people at the store did something wrong that knocked out his service. They said they fixed it with his phone, but he's still having troubles. Now, our family is out of upgrades until April, but my dad still needs a phone.
I recently upgraded from the Atrix 2 to the Moto X and I was wondering if it were possible for my dad to use my old Atrix 2 without paying extra per month. The phone's in good physical condition, but I wanted to upgrade because it was running sluggish while running most apps, which isn't really going to be a problem because he doesn't really care to use it as a smart phone, just really as a regular phone. Then again, he may want to start using apps while on wifi.
My mom and dad both have had their account set to block data usage because their phones aren't smart phones but they still have access to pre-installed bloatware for Facebook and a crappy browser, and they kept accidentally opening it up and getting $2 charges every time. Plus, I know I'm able to disable the phone from even trying to access the data network, but does anybody know if this will work?
