Is it possible to use an Android phone without having a Google account? I mean, would it be possible to have contacts and calendar stored locally, etc? I want to just because I want to.

Is it possible to drive your car with your eyes closed? Sure, anything's possible. You wouldn't be able to use the market, though.

Sure, you don't have to have your calendar/contacts sync with Google.

As pazzo said though, you'd be pretty limited in other areas without a google account to link to.

Good luck.

In all seriousness, if you can get your apps from Amazon or Getjar, you'll probably be able to do quite a bit without google.

If you want to, there is nothing stopping you. There are plenty of places to get apps, and you can sync most forms of email. Contacts and calendar can be stored locally.

I think I know where you are coming from and the answer is YES.

I run an Android 'phone, and although I use a Google account with it, and use Google email with the 'phone, I don't sync my contacts or my appointments with Google nor keep them in Google. I keep them on my local PC in Outlook, and sync them locally with my 'phone using bluetooth and 'The Missing Sync' by Mark/Space (no relation with this company other than that of a satisfied customer).

Devices like the Kindle Fire are Android-based and don't connect to gApps, so Google is not a requirement. As others have said, you can use GetJar, Amazon Appstore, and other sites to get applications. There are a few apps that will give you email without using gmail, and the phone should have a local calendar that can be used.

The only thing will be not being able to use Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Marketplace, and any other Google apps that require logging in.

Absolutely, I have an LG android WITHOUT a Google account for 3 years now.
Save all the information you want to keep to a computer or cloud device.
(Download the apps you will need like Amazon etc. for apps too)
Do a factory reset of your phone.
Then on restart do not add a google account.
