Annoying duplicate sms text messages

I spend a lot of time txting with someone on the same carrier who happens to have a BB. Back when I had a BB, text message integrity was never an issue (although admittedly i didn't txt as much since i used bbm for everything). Now that I am on the fascinate one of my huge gripes is that sms messaging is horribly unreliable. I will receive a duplicate message for one out of 5 or 10 that come in. Sending, according to the other party, is the same way. Also, a lot of the time (maybe 1 in 10) the message I am sending will register "failed" even though i am in an area with good signal.

Are there any other SMS addicts on the fascinate who have similar problems? Am I the only one? Is my phone broken?

From one person, I receive duplicate MMS every time she sends a picture. I only get the duplicate pics from her though, and no one else. She uses Handcent, so Android can't be blamed for third party apps.

From your other posts, it sounds like you have nothing but trouble with this phone. Take it back and get another one. Run it stock (no third party apps) for a few days and see what happens.

What do I tell them? "Oh sometimes it duplicates sms messages"? Sounds pretty thin, not much has happened to this phone that cant be explained by lousy software. MMS is the other thing I completely forgot about. Every time I get a MMS jpeg it loads it like its a 5 second video and it sits there "playing" a jpeg. Is that a hardware flaw too?

They will send you a factory refurb as a replacement if you are not under your 30 days. However for the duplicate message issue it is an issue of connection strength not your phone. All cell phones do it. However when I had my BB and used bbm it never happened.

I had to tell verizon what was going on and they explained it pretty nicely. It just depends where you are (or they are) when a text is sent. Are you getting the duplicates from the same person or various people?

All my MMS's come in as a video as well. I have to long press on the message and save the attachment. I've had the same person send MMS to my other phones with no issues (no dups). It's just the Fascinate. Also, I can't receive MMS no matter what from a couple people (on the Fascinate). All my other phones receive it fine though. I don't get a lot of pic messages, but how would I even know people are sending them to me if I never get them!

I only txt other people infrequently and have never seen a duplicate from them. In all the SMS messaging with my BB i never saw a dupe or a failed message (the bb also offered provider-based delivery confirmation, but i digress).

I am in the last week of my 30 days and am starting to wonder if the radio on this phone is bad somehow. It has only once dropped a call and that was when I was driving up into the mountains and got past the point where repeaters were installed so it's not the phones fault. The thing that concerns me is that the "time without signal" number in my battery meter is waaaaay too high (40% or more most of the time) and so I don't know if this is a glitch in the meter, or a symptom that the radio is not working right while idling (which would explain the SMS problems too).

the mms images playing as a video is a software thing, some (most) android phone's i've used display them in this way.

i get dup texts every so often, but i'm talking like maybe once or twice a month. that's on all the android phones i've had on verizon...
